This application is for an applicant to apply for a Commercial Vehicle Licence (CVL) for new Ridesharing vehicles or to renew an existing CVL. If you want to apply for a new CVL that is not Ridesharing, you will need to go to your local Motor Vehicle Registry (MVR). MVR office locations are available at
nt.gov.au/driving/licences/find-a-motor-vehicle-registry-mvr-office.
Before commencing this application, you must:
•have an active email account; •have your ABN number (Australian Business Number); •have your vehicle inspected within the last six weeks; •have your vehicle inspection report to upload now, or advise in the application form if the report has already been lodged with MVR by an Authorised Vehicle Inspector within the last six weeks; •ensure your vehicle is not older than nine years for Ridesharing vehicles; •if renewing an existing CVL, have your CVL number to enter into the form; and •for categories other than Ridesharing, have your operator accreditation number. •If the vehicle you wish to use for rideshare is in someone else’s name, joint names, a company or business, you must upload a letter from the vehicle owner authorising you to use the vehicle for the purposes of rideshare.
You are able to save your application and return to it at a later time. Please note you only have 7 days to complete the application or you will need to start again.
Please note that for new Ridesharing vehicles, your Motor Accident Compensation insurance component of your vehicle registration will increase slightly. The annual increase is approximately $270. The amount of registration you have remaining on your vehicle will determine the outstanding insurance amount due. Applicants will be advised of this amount should their applications be approved.
The application processing time may take up to 10 working days. You will be advised of the outcome of this application via email which will include payment details.
