Details of limited partners

Instructions for filling in limited partner list:

Click on the following link to open the spreadsheet : limited partners spreadsheet
Enter details of ALL limited partners of the partnership into the spreadsheet
Save the spreadsheet to your local device
Click on 'Upload File' to upload the spreadsheet from your local device

The file must be an .xlsx and must be less than 20MB in size to be successfully loaded. Form may respond slowly for a large number of limited partners.

The programs are jointly managed by the department and the ATO and the details are shared with the ATO. Ensuring limited partner details are correct is required for appropriate access to benefits within the tax system.

General guidance:

When entering a limited partner who is an individual, all given and family names must be entered in full ie John Smith not J Smith. The individual’s address must be a personal residential address, not an address of an accountant or a business address.
For Australian entities, use the ABR Lookup (https://abr.business.gov.au/) to validate a single ABN or the ABN lookup tools (https://abr.business.gov.au/Tools/AbnLookup) to validate multiple ABNs. Use ASIC Connect (https://asicconnect.asic.gov.au/) to validate an ACN.

Guidance on ABN and ACN requirements for Australian limited partner entities:

Based on the limited partner type:

AFOF: include the ABN if it has one
Company/financial Institution: must have an ACN, include the ABN if it has one
Individual: do not include an ACN
Partnership: include the ABN if it has one
Self-managed super fund (SMSF): a trustee and a SMSF are different entities and must not have a matching ACN and ABN. For example if the LP is Polar Express Pty Ltd ATF Santa's SMSF, then:
- Polar Express Pty Ltd is the trustee and must have an ACN
- Santa's SMSF is the SMSF and must have an ABN

If the trustee is an individual then do not include an ABN; all given and family names must be entered in full ie John Smith not J Smith; the address must be a personal residential address, not an address of an accountant or a business address.

Super/pension Fund: must have an ABN
Trust: a trustee and a trust are different entities and must not have a matching ACN and ABN. For example if the LP is Polar Express Pty Ltd ATF Santa's Trust, then:
- Polar Express Pty Ltd is the trustee and must have an ACN
- Santa's Trust is the trust and must have an ABN
